Everyone learns in a different way. At NDT Training Center, we understand that fact. That’s why we offer three pathways to help you achieve your training requirements, each one tailored to your best learning style.
NDT Training Options – 3 Pathways
Pathway #1 – NDT Classroom Training
The first NDT Training path is the traditional way of getting your NDT Education. Take classes in each NDT Method.
This has been the way most people have learned the basics of the NDT Methods for decades.
Taking In-Person Classes gives you an opportunity to interact with other people in the class. Therefore, most of our classes include people who are new to the NDT industry as well as those who have varying degrees of experience in the field. Some of our students have been working in the field for several years, earning OJT hours as helpers, etc. but are now needing formal training or are refreshing their knowledge for recertification.
The advantage here is that you can get a broader view of how things actually work out in the field. Our classroom discussions often turn to actual real world examples of how the methods are being used. However, we often uncover wrong techniques and things that have been passed down from one to another on work sites. This helps those who are new to the NDT industry understand the right and wrong application of the NDT method they are studying. That will help you learn it THE RIGHT WAY!
To enhance your learning experience, our classes also include hands-on time with the equipment you will be using in the field. We use actual work procedures in class to apply the theory you are learning. Then, we demonstrate the step by step processes and practice the correct techniques. One on One Time with our experienced, expert Instructors is important to your learning.
Therefore, you have plenty of time to practice – HANDS-ON – before you are tested on the NDT Skills you have learned.
Each of our classes include General, Specific, and Practical Tests. These tests can be used to meet your minimum qualification requirements, at the discretion of the employer’s Level III. Remember, you do not leave class as a CERTIFIED Technician, but you will have earned two-thirds of your qualifications – FORMAL TRAINING and TEST SCORES.

Pathway #2 – NDT Online Courses
NDT Training and Testing Center was the first NDT School to offer Online NDT Courses!
Early on, once the internet became a real option for NDT Training, we put together online courses that would allow students to study at their own pace thereby getting a solid NDT Education. We’ve come a long way since then!
At the beginning, the courses were simply slides to read through, quizzes to take along the way, and a final exam to take online. However, that’s not how OUR ONLINE NDT COURSES look today!
Up-To-Date Technology – NDT Online Courses Today
Over the years, we’ve stayed up-to-date and “ahead of the curve” when it comes to online NDT Training.
Our staff includes NDT education specialists who understand how to design and deliver online training in a fast, efficient, easy-to-understand format. Therefore, you will learn what you need to know in order to start a successful NDT Career!
NDT Training Options – Benefits of Online Learning
Online Training is a great option for students who can’t afford the extra travel expenses associated with attending out-of-town classes. Also, companies can save money and down-time for employees with online NDT training options.
Here’s a few other things to consider:
1. Work at your own pace
As we said earlier, people learn in different ways and at different speeds. We understand that! Some people who attend classes are a bit overwhelmed with the amount of information they have to learn, and retain, in a short period of time. And then, pass the final exam.
Being able to take your time through the material, absorbing the information as you go, is better for some of our students.
So, we give you 30 days to finish the material in our online courses.
2. Review the Course Material as much as you want before you take the Final Exam
The Final Exam is a closed-book test, however, you are allowed to go back through the material as many times as you like prior to opening the final exam.
3. Take One Course at a time or reduce costs by Bundling the Courses
There is flexibility built into our Online NDT Program. So, you can take one course at a time, paying as you go. Or, you can purchase a course bundle, which includes several classes, at a reduced cost.
NDT Training Online Course Options
Our online courses mimic our classroom courses. So, they include the same slide presentation that we use in class. We teach through the slides via audio, the same way we do in class. And, all of the hands-on demonstrations we do in class are included in the online courses on video. We also include some extra things that we can’t actually demonstrate in class. Therefore, you will have a great experience and a full understanding of the NDT Methods you are studying.

But, What About Hands-On Time?
The Concern
The one thing that causes people to shy away from online NDT Training options is the lack of hands-on time with the equipment. So, they are concerned that they will not get a full understanding of how to apply the NDT Techniques they are learning. WE AGREE…sort of!
The Problem
Traditionally, Online NDT Training Courses have been best suited for people who have had some exposure to working in the field. They initially learn how to do it from someone in the field, then come to class or take the online course in order to meet their formal training requirements.
Unfortunately, that traditional way has not always proven to be the best way to learn. Therefore, over time, we have learned that many people have been taught incorrectly by others in the field. So, bad habits or incorrect techniques sometimes seep into common practice.
The Solution
Pathway #3 – NDT Online Training + Hands-On Lab
Our HYBRID Online NDT Training + Hands-On Lab Options
The process that we have developed will actually give you “more bang for your buck” when it comes to hands-on time with the equipment and one-on-one time with the instructor. Let me explain.
You will learn the techniques correctly first, then apply what you learn to a hands-on environment.
In our classroom environment, we are able to teach the theory and correct application of the hands-on techniques simultaneously. So, you learn something. Then, watch it applied correctly. Then, do it yourself, HANDS_ON.
First, as we’ve said, our online courses are as close to the classroom experience as possible.
- We teach the theory. (You learn something.)
- You watch the video. (We demonstrate the correct technique.)
Once you have successfully completed the Online course, you’ll be able to schedule one of our upcoming Hands-On Lab dates at our Houston Campus. They range from 1-3 Days each, depending on the method that you are studying.
The Hands-On Lab includes:
- Extended Hands-On time with equipment for the method of instruction
- Instructor-Led Exercises for learning the correct techniques for using the equipment in the field
- Actual Work Procedures to help you learn how to interpret and use a procedure – This includes a written (computer-based) Specific Test to verify your ability to interpret and apply the working procedure.
- Opportunity to practice the correct techniques on work samples before conducting the Practical Test
- A Practical (Hands-On) Test to verify your ability to properly apply what you have learned and accurately report findings related to flaw identification and sizing.
The Specific and Practical Tests included in the Hands-On Lab, along with the General Test you complete at the end of your online course, complete the 3 tests as described in ASNT SNT-TC-1a, CP-189, etc. Your employer may choose to use these tests as verification of your skills and knowledge, administered by a third party agency.
The Hands-On Lab will actually give you MORE TIME TO PRACTICE and BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE EQUIPMENT than our regular classroom courses. Therefore, The Hybrid Learning NDT Training Options actually offer more hands-on time dedicated to learning the correct techniques, etc.
When you attend the Hands-On Lab, we’ll conduct a short review of things you learned in the Online Course, then the rest of our time together is HANDS-ON Learning!
