NDT Training is a great start for your NDT career!

NDT Training - NDT Education RequirementsFormal training is a cornerstone for your career and a requirement for NDT certification.

There are 3 main components required for NDT certification. We’ll cover these in more detail in an upcoming module, however it may be good to understand the basics.

The 3 Main Components for certification in most industries are:

  • Formal NDT Training in the NDT Method you are performing
  • 3 Tests – General, Specific, and Practical (included in all of our NDT training courses), and
  • On the Job Training/On the Job Time (OJT) – the main hurdle for you as someone new to the NDT industry (We’ll discuss how to jump that hurdle in an upcoming module.)

If you were an employer, who would you rather hire?

  1. Someone with no experience and no NDT education, or
  2. Someone who has taken the initiative to get an education that can help them succeed.

Most employers would prefer option two.

If someone has taken the initiative to pursue their own education, at their own cost, it shows that they are serious about being a part of the NDT industry.

On rare occasions, if you know someone who owns an inspection company or an NDT manager, you may be hired without any education, but it isn’t likely.

The Value of Starting with NDT Training

Understanding the basics of the NDT methods you are being asked to perform, and having some hands-on time with the equipment you will be using, prior to going out in the field, is a great benefit to you!

  • You will know the basic techniques of NDT methods. ( You could even demonstrate what you know, if asked to do so, during a job interview. )
  • You’ll understand the language of the industry. ( During the interview, you’ll be able to speak intelligently and understand what the employer is asking for.)
  • You will also understand how procedures are used in the industry. ( Understanding how to interpret and apply work procedures is critical to your success in the NDT Industry. )
  • Having NDT Training on your resume proves that you are a serious candidate for employment. ( You’re saving the company time and money in their training and hiring processes. That makes you more appealing than someone who has not! )
  • You will have already started to understand which NDT methods you want to focus your attention on as you move forward in your career. ( It’s not all about the money. It’s important to like what you do. Once you’ve been exposed to a variety of NDT methods during your NDT training time, you will be better able to develop opinions about what your personal focus should be. )

If you want to launch a rocket, you need a solid launching pad.

If you want to launch a successful NDT Career, you need a solid NDT education! It gives you the foundation you need to hit your target, your goal.
